How to make Eyelet Lace - Broderie Anglaise / Stamping on fabric for emb...

Here we are - the last one!

You can see, if you look closely, there is the odd place where I didn't fully cover the line. Of course, this really isn't as obvious in real life - but boy my camera picks up detail. That's why I often take a picture of a vintage button I'm studying then zoom in!

Ok, so the sun is still out! Wow. Time to go enjoy it a little.
Have a lovely day and stay well everyone x

  1. Very nice finish! I don't think I could make an overhead video - I have to take my glasses off to work and hold things six inches from my nose. The joys of near sight, eh? When I've worked some sort of complex cutwork I will often cut a slit in the center of the space and unravel the waste fabric so I'm cutting individual threads but that is just me and is really loony!
I like being able to zoom in on buttons also - makes it possible to understand them!
Hope everyone had a nice romp in the sunshine.
    Safe and well. xxx

    1. Thank you! Yes, i do need stronger and stronger glasses these days. Ah well. At least they exist. Can't imagine being in a time where they didn't. I suspect that doing the cutwork your way results is a particularly beautiful and fine piece. That kind of attention always shows. Stay safe and well xx

  2. You are right about needing stronger glasses and being glad to be able to get them - I think some of the old samplers we see are kind of cattywompus because the girl was so farsighted she couldn't see to stitch. And I've seen work done by friends and family members at the end of life that are the same - so frustrating for them and painful for me, and here I am, teetering on the brink of old-person-vison! Oh well, I've had a lot of fun along the way!
Enough gloom!!! Stay safe and well, please - all of you! Hugs. xxxxx

  3. I have come to the conclusion that I really and truly need multiple lifetimes because there is just too much wonderful needlework to learn to do even a little bit in one life. This moan comes from prowling through the Antique Pattern Library site - I come away limp from the joy of seeing so many, many wonderful things to make! I feel a bit like Mr.Toad the first time a motor car crosses his path - sitting in the dust whispering 'poop poop'.xxx

  4. Oh what fun! I've just heard a herd of raccoon babies being led along by their mother - such a racket they make, chittering and squeaking and getting left behind in a panic! I've only ever seen them once, from a little distance, wiggling and jiggling along under the street lamp - so funny, but it was not so funny when they were living under the house and nesting up under the bathtub. Makes you jump when someone growls at you in the middle if the night when all you are doing is piddling! And they love to tease all the dogs on our blocks by strolling slowly along the fences, making rude raccoon remarks that drive the poor dogs crazy. Of course the feral cats do that also, and the opossums - and some of our neighbors have seen the coyotes ambling down the middle of the street - we have fewer cats and very healthy looking coyots, let me tell you!
All of you stay safe and well. Tell Toby to watch out for hawk birds looking for a little dog snack! xxx

    1. Oh wow! I have a very vague memory of racoons and my Mom's best friend's house in upstate NY. I think they must have been near the porch. Our present regular visitors are a couple of pheasants that survived the season - one younger and a bit wary, the other comes up to the window to shout Mark if there's no seed near the bird feeder because the crows got there first! We've a blackbird with a white spot and quite a few other birds this year - obvious there is no cat about. Still wonder what happened to her but the vikings are now very big, long and lanky youths!
Don't get me started on the pattern library. I try to avoid it as hours go by!
I think that's a great point about the glasses. I hadn't thought about that. It makes perfect sense.
      Stay safe and well! xx

  5. I love the pheasant! We had squirrels and blue jays that would knock on the window if there weren't any peanut hearts out - quite insistent and rude.
Glad the viking boys are doing so well - I do miss having a cat :(
Have a good week. Stay safe and well. xxx

    1. I have to admit, I miss having a cat too! I will have to try to get a picture of Fez as he's being called.
Stay safe and well - second jab for me tomorrow, yay!

    2. Oh, hooray! So glad to know you will have some protection in a couple of weeks - seems very mean that it isn't instantaneous, but I guess we should be grateful they actually found any protection. Hope Mark has been jabbed also. xxx

    3. Very sore arm at the moment and rather tired, but then again, being tired isn't a surprise at the end of the week :)
Yes, Mark's been jabbed - he's older than me ;)

Have a lovely weekend and stay well xxx

    5. Ignore the moans and groans - it was a very cranky sort of day! Will go refrigerator shopping tomorrow with measurements in hand and have some ice cream for a treat on the way home. I will have a heck of a time talking Don into a simple 'fridge without bells and whistles - no ice makers or water in the door or giant silver monsters - we have a small kitchen, very hard on pipes water and a tray of ice cubes has been known to last all summer! Wish me luck!! Hugs to you all. Stay safe and well. xxx

    6. Haha! I hear the ice makers always fail first! Good luck with that. They do like their gadgets ;)
I hope today is a better day for you. Stay safe and well xx

  6. It has been an interesting Monday - up earlyish to both have our teeth cleaned, which is fine because we are careful and there isn't too much debris to scrapes out, met a friend I haven't seen in a year and a half (same dentist for yoncks), Don went to get his cleaning and I got to have a full mouth x-ray! My dentist comes out waving the printout and fussing - turns out one of the lower center front teeth has gone off the deep end - killed it's root (thank goodness!) and is destroying itself from the outside in. Seems I am in immanent danger of having the tooth simple snap off given the slightest stress! The hygienist was forbidden to touch it, and the x-rays are being hand carried to the man who will do the root canal! Since I am already in the throes of having an implant on the lower left rear this will be on Thursday, and I don't think there is going to be a whole lot of lag time before this new problem is out of my mouth. Must not complain! After all, I had a niceish xray with the latest equipment, no huge cardboard film holders cutting my face to bits, no waiting a week while the film is processed, A dear, sweet dentist, and a very good man to do the implant, not forgetting that we can handle the expense without any problem - so I'll just stop fussing!
I do hope your weekend and Monday went well for all of you, minimum sore arm, semi-decent weather, etc. Do please stay safe and well. C xxx

    1. Oh no! How awful. I hope it all goes well for you on Thursday. At least it hasn't been giving you pain. I am sure that the procedure will go well. Sounds like you have a good dentist there actually! I remember those cardboard xrays. Gosh they were always so much bigger than my mouth. Who in the heck were they designed for anyway?
And the fridge. That really can't be good where you are! For us, car duly serviced, little oddity that happens every once in a while can't be tracked down. Our French drain is complete and wall is far less damp, so that seems to be working. And otherwise still seem to have too much work to actually get through.
I hope you get a really good ice cream - ice cream parlour style? I could do with an old fashioned hot fudge sundae.... Stay safe and well xxx

    2. Happy to say that all three people who tend my mouth are very good - my dentist has been keeping an eye on me for almost 50 years!!!, all of my root canals have been done by a darling man who told me to be sure and go to the London Silver Vaults, and the extractions and implants are by a doctor who has mellowed into one of the good guys over the years.
Miserable as the cardboard xrays were I had a worse time with the whole upper and lower whole mouth impressions while undergoing tooth straightening - nasty cold seaweed goop and all they could do is tell me to pant like a dog! I'm surprised they ever got a clear imprint. Even the partial impressions done for a crown seem to be a challenge for all concerned :). Still, I will not fuss - they are all good people who only want the best for me and my teeth!
How nice to have a French drain! It does make such a difference - less damp all around (should help the joints!) and no more slithery walls! Years when we have a lot of rain I tell Don we could use one but it might only occur once or twice in fifteen or more years, so we just have a waterlogged inside angle once in a while.
The refrigerator is now going to have a set of new seals and its' coils vacuumed - don't know why, not going to question, just wheel out the Hoover!
Don't forget to take a few minutes for some deep breathing, a good hug, and a cup of something - you'll get back to the salt mine much refreshed. Stay safe and well. xxx
