Yorkshire cactus pincushion - Yorkshire button craft / fun project with ...

As I say in this video, I'm sure this has been inspired by the heatwave!

There are probably a lot of cactii in Yorkshire in reality, but the thought of Yorkshire Cactii as a thing tickled me.

I made a smaller version of this on one of my Create and Craft shows. The thing is, these little Yorkies (as many in our Facebook group currently refer to them as) are quite addictive. So using them to create something like this is fun and actually quite mindful too.

I also have a bit of an obsession with pincushions. I make quite a lot of them. Odd. Perhaps it is because, like buttons, they are a nice project that won't take ages.

Of course, we all need pincushions! But not just for sewing pins. I know, most of us won't be using hat pins, but you can use a pincushion for brooches and badges too remember.

Take care everyone, stay hydrated and as cool as you can.

Ivy Covered Log Studio Button - walkthrough

Hi everyone! It has been a little while since I updated this blog. Of course I am updating the One Button a Week blog every week (do pop over and have a look!), so I am not neglecting things really, I just haven't got that much to say. I'm sure you don't want to read me just writing for the sake of it!

I decided to try a slightly different take on things for this video. Goodness, that wasn't a good idea! Usually, I know what I am filming, do it in quite an organised way, and Mark is able to edit it based a lot of my silences - or simply by me turning of the camera for anything repetitive. Well, not this one. I did not know how this was going to turn out - or what I was filming. So the editing took forever - I had to do it as Mark couldn't remotely figure it out, and I had to narrate afterwards and it just took ages. Not really cost effective by way of time, haha. I hope that you enjoy it though.

Speaking of time, can you believe it is already nearly a month since we were last on Create & Craft? Well, we are back this coming Tuesday (the 26th) and the show will feature Teneriffe Lace. Which hasn't been on your screens for at least a year. I'm looking forward to it and have been making some lace (spoiler alert, there will at least one lace themed video next week to add to the playlist).

Take care of yourselves, thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend - or week, depending on when you are reading this.

How to make a Button Bangle

I bet you all thought I'd fallen off the face of the earth, didn't you?

Not quite, but it has been busy!
A nice commission to get through - top secret (had to sign a NDA) so sometime in the future I'll be able to share. :)

Working really hard on the historical button book, it is getting whipped into shape. Still so many photos to take though, as it will be a step-by-step. My title is far too long I reckon, well, the subtitle is. I don't know. It tell it like it is.

The Historical Buttonmaker Volume 1:
The 15th, 16th and 17th centuries

To be fair, there won't be many medieval, so I might leave that bit out.

Of course, we are also working hard to plan next year's shows and what new kits we press ahead with.

We have our last Craft Store show coming up on the 11th at 10am, and I've got my covid booster next week as well.

And that isn't even thinking about Christmas. haha!

I hope you enjoy this - I love button bracelets and have quite a few made on elastic, some joined with rings but I do have a soft spot generally for bangles. This actually came about because Anne (from my design sample team) made a fantastic trinket box many years ago using a big yubinuki. Which was awesome. So much work! Taking the whole yubinuki concept big gives a lot of scope I think for using up fabric and card.

Take care everyone.

Button Craft: How to make a Yarrell Dorset Button - and button magnet / ...

And another new video! It's been hot under the lights without air conditioning, I can tell you. :)

Here I am patiently waiting for the new book's arrival, it should have been here a few days ago so I am rather stressed as it is launching tomorrow on The Craft Store...

These things are sent to try us.

Other than that, it's been full on working samples and packing up the bundle we will be launching with. And being too hot.

No, I am not complaining really. It makes a lovely change instead of rain.

Take care, stay safe, and I hope you can tune into the Craft Store tomorrow morning.

Button Craft: Yorkshire Button Bookmark / Journal closure - Flat button ...

Yay! A video!

I hope you are all keeping well? We are of course busy - there is always something to do!

The button in this video was a request from a customer, so I hope it is helpful to a few of you. I do like to use the Yorkshire button over a flat mould, and here's one of the ways that I do it.

The new book is being launched next week with a show on The Craft Store, so here's fair warning you'll get a lot more from me over the week as I step up the whole social media stuff again.

Enjoy your weekend, I will be working on samples for the show.
:)
