Another Dorset Button! How to make a Dorset Flower Button / plus chain s...

Look at me! On a roll at the moment!

A quick little video for making a Dorset Flower button. I've also added an idea for adding extra colour - and how to create a "chain stitch" border. It's a nice touch that can be added to most Dorset designs.

This button is included in my book, Dorset Ring Buttons, available over on my website.

Stay hydrated everyone - seems the weather is going to get hot here in the UK again next week, and I know it is elsewhere too.

  1. Sweet Dorset! That faux chain is the perfect finish. Nicely done, kiddo ;)
Speaking of Dorset rings, I girded my loins and went to a big quilt show this last week - amazing work, to say the least! But - there was a company there who do lots of hand dyed threads and fabrics ( very 'help the locals make a living' ) and they had done a 1 1/4" Dorset ring with each color of perle cotton they produce - all sewn to a big panel and pinned up on the booth wall - A real treat! Made me come home and start making rings with the threads on hand, I can tell you! Unfortunately had no camera and couldn't find a picture on their site - global artisans .com
Just checked - we are supposed to be in the high 80's this month, and we are in an area that gets an ocean wind much of the time - the rest of the county will be into three figures and dry as a bone! Guess we aren't going anywhere much. You all stay as cool as you can (remember the damp tea towel) and safe and well. xxx

    1. Thank you! You know, I may have seen an image of that on Instagram - it rings a bell. Didn't realise it was the company though. Yoko does that with the silk that she uses, creates a wrapped button when ever she has a new colour range. Such a nice way to keep swatches really. Yes, it is supposed to get hot here again too. They are bringing in the crops as well, so not only dry, but dusty!
      Stay safe and well xxx

    2. Oh yes, the dust from harvest! I spent my summers in wheat country and remember the big combines rattling around - have a snap somewhere of me up in the cab! Hope the dust matches the new paint?
Stay safe and well and as cool as possible. xx

  2. I remember hearing, long ago, that horses sweat, gentleman perspire, and ladies feel the heat - I'm feeling distinctly equine! ;) xx

  3. Still very warm here - not hideous, but uncomfortable - fans running most of the time and no blankets!
Had some good news - my jaw is ready for its' implant, scheduled for two weeks! I'll be glad to see the last of the retainer plate that keeps existing teeth from shifting, although I must say it did an admirable job of aligning.
Of course, it is back to soft food and tiny bites and no biting of apples, etc. but I got through it once before and can do it again and I should be able to eat a proper Christmas dinner. Isn't it wonderful what they can do nowadays?
Hugs all around and stay safe and well. xxx

    1. Oh that is good news! Yes, it really is quite amazing. Soft food in summer means lots of ice cream! perfect timing I reckon ;) Still very hot and dry here of course. I do need to spend a little more time actually outside though, for my vitamin D, but I tend to wimp out and want to come back in, lol
Stay well and safe both of you xxx

    2. Thee and me both! Can't stand the blaze so we walk after 6pm in the summer - that's why they invented Vitamin D pills! Sitting under a tree doesn't really count, I think.
Oh yes - ice cream! Thanks for the reminder ;)
Stay safe and well all three of you. xxx
