Yorkshire cactus pincushion - Yorkshire button craft / fun project with ...

As I say in this video, I'm sure this has been inspired by the heatwave!

There are probably a lot of cactii in Yorkshire in reality, but the thought of Yorkshire Cactii as a thing tickled me.

I made a smaller version of this on one of my Create and Craft shows. The thing is, these little Yorkies (as many in our Facebook group currently refer to them as) are quite addictive. So using them to create something like this is fun and actually quite mindful too.

I also have a bit of an obsession with pincushions. I make quite a lot of them. Odd. Perhaps it is because, like buttons, they are a nice project that won't take ages.

Of course, we all need pincushions! But not just for sewing pins. I know, most of us won't be using hat pins, but you can use a pincushion for brooches and badges too remember.

Take care everyone, stay hydrated and as cool as you can.

  1. Cute as heck! If you have a greenish yarn with white fluff you can make a cool old man's beard cactus for the center - great way to play with bits of yarn.
We had our annual 'wellness' visit with our doctor today - some bloodwork , check the blood pressure, check for signs of dementia and ability to live and get around - not exactly a physical but I guess it is better than nothing and it lets us see our m.d., whom I like very much. Both doing well !
Goodness, you have a lot of traffic on your road! Almost as bad as we are! But not as many radios blaring, I hope!
Stay as cool as you can, and safe and well. xxx

    1. Glad you are both well and have passed your tests! Yes, tell me about it. The traffic can be terrible. I usually film at night. But, as usual at the moment, I was running behind and thought an early morning would be good. The sunshine at the weekend brings out the speeding motorbikes. We are on a "run" where they can pick up ridiculous speeds and do. There have been too many fatal accidents but they keep doing it. It's a stone house and the room I use is quite well insulated from sound as well! I think my new mic is a little too good too!
      Stay safe and well! xx

  3. Your Speed Is ..... sign? Our residential street has become very major route because they have been messing with the real through route - tough to cross in rush hour!
Do stay as comfortable as possible and safe and well. xx

    1. Don't think that will happen, we can't even get super-fast broadband... haha! Bit of rain yesterday, so things cooled a little. Although sun seems quite strong again today! Have a great weekend and stay safe & well, Gina

  4. We actually closed windows! And I put on socks! Love it when the weather gods take a bit of pity on us.
Sorry about the road and the broadband - take care while driving? and remember the poor sods who have no band? Yah, sounds like a mom, but then I am one, so there you go! Stay safe and well. Charlotte xx

    1. We are lucky that the other side is fields and countryside and peace & quiet xx
So glad the weather cooled for you too. We've a lovely home, and complete countryside on 3 sides, so can't complain! Stay well and safe xx

  5. Well, I managed to view the button show on rewind - I seem to have fallen behind in my kit and book acquiring! Guess someone will have to do something about that! Nice show, liked the simple line up of all the goodies. And so pleased all sold well! Lots of work, but the Toby Pup needs his treats.
Could not coax a viewing of the Japanese crafts - it looks as if Chris and Anne have made some wonderful samples. Oh well, another time.
Went and rewatched 'how to make a button bangle' - I now have an inkle loom so I can try using some bands for buttons - fun, fun, fun!
Implant is safely in my lower front jaw - quite a speedy process, minimum fuss and discomfort. The plate they made to hold the teeth on either side in place is still being used for the same purpose - it just clears the metal of the implant and has the serious advantage of keeping my tongue from poking around the site, which is a bonus for me! My tongue is always getting into place where my dentist is trying to work - her assistant has to keep a barrier tool in place or I'd get a drilled tongue :). Managed to get all the laundry finished and put away and laid in a stock of ice cream, etc. beforehand so I'm quite happy.
Hope the trip home was safe and that all is well - xxx

    1. I'm so glad that your implant is all sorted now! That must be a relief really. Smart move on the ice cream. I hope it is an extra special type :) . Craft Extra is still in the early stages and doesn't have many ways to watch - even live is limited, but as far as I am aware, it can't yet be watched after the event. Thanks for trying! Anne & Chris are fab. Couldn't do the shows without their help, I'd never keep up!
Trying to get a little bit of of a break - well, managed to tidy up, do some other housework and and really, just packing and cutting fabric. Today some paperwork to catch up on, so not much of a break I guess... haha! Toby is happy though, plenty of treats :) Take care - heal quickly, and stay safe and well both of you! xxx
