How to make a silk thread button / covering a bead with thread - the pro...

Hi! A new video ready to go! Actually, I have uploaded two - the first being a little product support video. So, if you want to double-check how to stretch the fabric in the little slate frames that we supply in our button embroidery kits, so can see how below.

The thread button video above is one I've been asked to do quite often over the years. Usually when there is a discussion about costs paid. With the exception of the very fancy buttons, it is worth remembering that these things needed to be made quickly - otherwise the maker simply wouldn't earn. It wasn't all romantic sitting around in a warm heated room making buttons to relax. This was real. And while I do understand the argument that time was worth far less, particularly where the poor were concerned, it was worth more than 6 small buttons an hour.

So, have fun!

Tomorrow up with the lark to get to The Craft Store for our 9am show (which means arriving at the studios for 7am). We've got a new kit, Ganutell Fairies, which I really like.

I hope you'll be able to tune in - https://thecraftstore.com/

  1. I don't know what I have ever done to deserve this - went out to the public library (open again!!!!) for an hour - came home and the kitchen/dining room floors were washed! He is such a star! xxx

  2. I think the ganutel fairies would be fabulous angels using silver toned wire for wings and dresses, gold heads, white shiny thread in the wings and pale threads in the dress. I do wish my thumbs were up to it - it would be fun.
    Stay safe and well. xxx

  3. Do you find yourself leaving a trail of odds and ends of thread throughout the house? I do - and I can tell when I was last in an area by the thread bits on deposit! And let us not even discuss the contents of the dust bunnies!
Hope you had a bit of weekendish, relaxing time before leaping into packing and planning for the next show - the book launch? Don't forget those deep breaths ;) Hugs all around. Safe and well. xxx

    1. Yes, threads. Thread ends everywhere despite my best efforts otherwise. Yes, next show is the book launch, some serious re-arranging to try to get done at the unit this week. It is chaos, but the new units are fitting where they were intended so all's not too terrible. A lot of sore muscles expected while we move things!
Stay safe and well both of you xxx

    2. Ah yes - the joys of shoe horning stuff into limited space! Should the next door units worry about a takeover? Will they find that you have burrowed through the wall and have been stashing looms behind their goods? Remember to step outside and stretch and breathe once in a while and use that aches and pains cream my friends are crazy about.
We went mad yesterday and turned on the furnace! The wind was howling (stopped as soon as we had heat, of course) and my ankles had turned to ice. Very glad this furnace has a self ignition feature - I am very bad at lighting pilot lights. Don still laughs at me, remembering the day he came home from work and found me in three layers of sweaters, two blankets, a hat, and the cat clutched in my lap, with the gas fire blazing in the fire place. He lit the furnace.
Well, our teeth were cleaned yesterday and eyes get checked today and tomorrow, and my dental implant is proceeding well - I think we will be in good nick for the rest of the year! Holding good thoughts!
Stay safe and well, you three. xxx

    3. haha by the sounds of it, this is the time of year to be sorting out units - next door has certainly had a good clear out, the other side seems to be too! I popped our heating on for a little while the other day. Though I have a lovely pair of recycled cashmere wrist warmers that are keeping my hands lovely and cosy when I work. Glad all the check ups have gone well. Off to get my new insoles today - really hoping they will make the difference to my walking. Stay safe and well xxx

    4. Fingers crossed on the insoles! Plantars fascitits is such a cow - mine goes off periodically for no reason and I strap on the arch support pad and live in it for a few weeks - and I do try to remember to slowly stretch the achilles area - that is a big help.
Isn't it fun what you can do with a ratty old sweater? Cashmere sounds glorious - I've only ever found wool to play with. I'll have to have a look for something when I am next in a thrift store.
Discovered that my ten year old glasses let me see well enough to have the current frames be fitted with the new lenses! Saves a ton of money and I love the frames! Will get that process started while Don has his eyes checked today.
      Safe and well. xxx

  4. Am wearing ten year old glasses which do allow me drive legally, but weigh three times what the frames I'm having new lenses put into - Don laughed when I tore them off with a huge sigh of relief as soon as we got home - his turn next! New lenses cost the earth but should see me out. Vision doesn't seem to be deteriorating too badly or quickly - cross fingers ;)
Safe and well. Hugs all around. xxx

    1. It is amazing the difference the newer materials make to the weight isn't it? I have some old sunglasses that weight a ton it seems. Never thought about having new lenses in old frames - I did struggle finding frames I liked the last time and still aren't as happy as I was with my very old glasses (long gone now). Insoles in, it isn't plantar, rather deterioration "crumbling building". it won't be fixed, I'll need them all the time so hopefully it will work! It will take about a month to break them in apparently! Stay safe and well xxxx
